Travels With Charley Audiobook - The Rabid Reader
Travels with Charley: In Search of
America by John Steinbeck
In 1960, noted author John Steinbeck outfitted a camper for a cross country trip, packed up his standard poodle Charley and set out to learn about America. This audiobook is not a travelogue, rather it consists of Steinbeck ‘s musings on the nature of Americans, and their country. It is interesting to hear his comments on events of the day such as Krushev banging his shoe at the United Nations, and protestors in the South screaming hatred at black school children, as well as the more insidious effects or racism. It is also interesting to note how much or how little the country has changed. Steinbeck comments on our throwaway culture, about cities ringed with trash. Gary Sinise narrates.
