Julie and Julia
Julie and Julia: 365 days, 524 recipes, one tiny apartment kitchen: How one girl risked her marriage, her job, and her sanity to master the art of living by Julie Powell
Finally a cook who swears in the kitchen more than I do. I like the idea of a year long project and I was awestruck that anyone would make calves’ foot jelly, extract bone marrow, prepare kidneys, and bone a whole duck. I now know that I will never (ever) work my way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking, that I never want to live a NYC apartment and that the Stoli gimlet is a cure for everything Cheer Julie on, celebrate her victories, snicker over her mistakes but most of all be glad it isn’t you. This book is for those who want to live vicariously through another cook. But be warned, this “cook on the edge” is rated triple X for language!

This was one of the funniest most wonderful books I have read in a long time. Having cooked in a tiny NY apartment -- and now most grateful for my spacious NH kitchen -- I am dazzled by Julie Powell's ability to take on such a project and survive. Her husband is also amazing. The fabulous image of a person practicing omlette flipping on a NYC street would make this book worth reading even without all the other great parts.
