Feisty young Birdy, the daughter of a minor lord and lady has managed through wit, trickery, and luck, to send several would-be husbands packing. However, her father is determined to marry her off to a rich man -- any rich man, no matter how horrible. Catherine must marshal all her forces to be rid of the most piggish, brutal, and richest suitor of them all. The narrator does a marvelous job of depicting Catherine’s growing maturity through her voice. Brilliantly read, a funny and interesting tale, originally intended for young adults, it is equally enjoyable to adults.
